I got to give the Jesus Film to a friend yesterday for the first time... She was telling me about the violence and recent bombings in Somalia...About her fear that funds for these explosions are coming from places like Saudi Arabia. (She thinks they have an interest in keeping Somalia in constant distress and unrest.) I was amazed that she would talk about Saudi Arabia in this way...The image of the Ummah as being perfectly united in Islam; that this violence is just terrorists who aren't true Muslims-- She let that image drop for the first time. I think this shows a lot of trust. And it helps me understand the words of Jesus in John 17 even more. (How the testimony of LOVE and unity among believers will stand out...That this will be a sign to people that Jesus is from God.) Near the end of this conversation, I shared with her that if the teachings of Jesus were followed, there would be no more war. No more violence. There would be peace. Mohammad lived by the sword, and he taught his followers to conquer. Jesus taught us to serve. Their commands and lives are so fundamentally different. But of course it's more than that....It's that only God can give a new heart. It's the new life we can receive because of his death and resurrection. That we can become from being slaves to sin and hate and fear. God alone can make former enemies into brothers. God alone can give us rebirth to a new identity, empowered by his Spirit to become like Him. I gave my friend the link to the Jesus Film in her language so that she can see what he taught and how he lived (and died and rose again!) yesterday.... Please pray for Dadoy...This is her first time hearing about Jesus! Would love to hear your reflections on unrest as opportunity to share about the Prince of Peace. How do you tell? What passages are you drawn to?
